What we often forget about our old photos is that their value increases with time. Few people regularly dig out last year's holiday snaps from their box, yet we often can't wait to see the ones we took 10 or 20 years or more years ago!

What's more, photos taken by parents and grandparents can become family treasures. Yet while all these photos are gaining in significance, they're also degrading.

Black and white photos tend to survive fairly well through the generations because the chemistry of the prints is simple. Colour prints are different. The dyes used in these prints are far less stable, so they are prone to fading and colours can change over time.

I have recently purchased a purpose made scanner to bring back to life old and forgotten 35mm slides. Some of these were taken back in 1960 - nearly fifty years ago! There appears to be quite a large amount of interest, from friends and others to whom I have spoken, for having their own slides treated similarly. Therefore I have decided to offer a service for anyone who lives locally to restore their transparencies (and 35mm negatives) into a 2008 digital format.

Almost certainly, slides which have laid untouched, not looked at and generally suffering from old age deterioration (like me) can be 'doctored' - retouched, the colour restored and usually presented into something like their original format. They can then be printed off, usually on a standard 6" x 4" (152mm x 102mm) glossy photocard - or larger sizes up to A4 if required. They can also be transferred on to a CD or DVD for alternative viewing. There is also a possibility to transfer a complete file (by flash memory stick) directly into your own PC file storage program facility. All work would be treated with strict privacy between those submitting slides and myself.

I have not as yet worked out the exact cost as I am attempting to ascertain the level of interest, but if there is a demand you may be assured that this will be affordable. I appreciate most of those with 35mm slides will be fairly well advanced in years!
