Draft Response to Cherwell 2040 Plan

Dear All,

These comments need to be submitted by midday Friday 3rd of November. I attach a draft.  I'd welcome any further comments from you by close Thursday, 26th October.

The draft comments are in the form of a response to Cherwell's questionnaire.

The document needs to be read in conjunction with the Draft Plan which is available on-line.  As there is a lot to take in, here is a summary of my suggested comments.

  • Agree with the overall vision of ‘Meeting the Challenge of Climate Change'; 'Sustainable Local Economies'; 'Sustainable Communities'.

  • Welcome the spatial strategy with development concentrated in the towns and larger villages (e.g., Adderbury and Bloxham).

  • Welcome Cropredy being classified as a Smaller Village with any expected development within existing built-up areas or on allocated sites.

  • Support the suggest distribution of 500 (out of 4.615) additional dwellings being in rural areas (across the whole of Cherwell) and concentrated in the larger villages.

  • Welcome the protections proposed for villages and rural areas, and of heritage buildings, and conservation areas.

  • Stress the importance of sustaining village pubs, shops, and other services.

  • Welcome the vision and proposals for Banbury to be a thriving market town and an economic and social focus.

  • Urge that Cherwell ensures that the Plan is adopted as soon as possible to ensure protection from speculative development.

Please get in touch if you need anything clarifying.

Thank you,

Bob
