Footbridge Over Canal – Williamscot Road, Cropredy
Over the past few weeks there has been some concern as to what is happening with the canal footbridge on Williamscot Road. We have had a response from the Principal Highway Structures Engineer for bridges that confirms the footbridge is considered to be reasonably safe for carrying relatively high numbers of pedestrians (20 people at a time). The parapet to the bridge is also weak and could be overloaded with large crowds. However, it is still considered reasonably safe if closed when large crowds are anticipated within it’s vicinity.
The footbridge is going to be replaced. In the meantime some interim strengthening of the parapets is being considered and the bridge will be regularly inspected, to help ensure that it does not deteriorate further into a less safe condition before it is replaced.
